illustration of Temple of Vesta in the Roman Forum

An illustration of the Temple of Vesta

This is a very nice reconstruction illustration of the Temple of Vesta, as it shows some important features: the columns, the lattice work, the roof and the oculus in the center of the roof, through which the smoke from the sacred fire escapes. Behind the temple is the larger Temple of Castor and Pollux. There is a statue of a man with a horse on one side of the large staircase: that is one of the two statues of the Dioscuri (the name we give to the twins Castor and Pollux) that currently greet you at the top of the Capitoline Hill in Rome.
