antique map showing Roman forum

This is an antique map showing the layout of the Roman Forum. The red dot is the temple of Vesta (called the Aedes Vestae in Latin)

The location of the temple at the foot of the Palatine Hill (the hill where the emperors had their great homes) spoke to the fact that the sacred hearth within the temple was the hearth fire of Rome itself. Adjacent to the red dot labeled Aedes Vestae is a rectangular space labelled Atrium Vestae. This was the luxury home of the Vestal Virgins.
