The invocation of a Vestal Virgin: Frederic Leighton’s 19th century beauty.

This oil on canvas by the British painter Frederic Leighton is perhaps the only work that, to my mind at least, rivals the dignity and beauty of Leroux’s depictions of the Vestals.
