An ancient fragment of a relief showing the Vestal Virgins attending a banquet.
Despite how they may be portrayed by some, the Vestals hardly lived “cloistered” lives. Their temple and home were located in the heart of Rome, and they were often seen moving about the city. They performed many public functions and rituals, attended many public spectacles (with front-row seating, of course), managed their own businesses, advocated for family and friends, and—as we can see in this ancient marble from Luna—attended banquets.
