NONFICTION BOOKS
Where the Old World Meets the New World
If reading my novels on the Vestal Virgins inspired you to light a candle and think of the “old ways,” these nonfiction offerings might interest you.
Although I’m currently focused on writing historical fiction, I’ve long been intrigued by the laws of ancient Rome.
That’s why The Religious and Secular Laws of Ancient Rome has been a work in progress for some time. I hope to finish it soon!
Divination was part of Roman religion, and the Vestal Virgins would have “read” the flames of the sacred fire to divine the will of the goddess. After researching this for my novels, I came up with a way to transfer the same ancient practices and methodology to candle reading—and this book is an introduction to the practice.
I wrote this little book back in 2013, not too long after I started honoring Vesta in a structured way and not too long before I first began research for my novels about her priestesses. It is a personal account of how I came to know Vesta. It is also a snapshot of what was happening in my life at the time and how incorporating this ancient spirituality into it affected me—something it continues to do even more so today, though in new ways as my life goes on. If you are just discovering Vesta, it may be of interest to you. I wish you the best on your journey.
The faith and flame of Vesta burned in antiquity for centuries, providing a spiritual focus for the home and protecting its foundations. Today, this tradition has been renewed and adapted, and is being embraced by a new generation of "spiritual but not religious" women, men, and families. From simple mealtime rituals to skills-based marriage and family-strengthening advice, The New Vesta Home is part spiritual treatise and part practical relationship manual. Use it to bring daily sparks of love, devotion, happiness and meaning to your marriage and home life.
Experience the thrilling world of the Vestal Virgins with my historical fiction novels.
